Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Director Dr. Josette Biyo is set to receive a prestigious Educational Leadership Award from the World Education Congress of CMO Asia.

The Award will be given at 7th Asia’s Education Excellence Awards to be held on August 5, 2016 at the Pan Pacific Marina Square in Singapore.

The Asia's Education Excellence Awards are given to “individuals and institutions that have surpassed several levels of excellence” and set examples of exemplary leadership and have made a difference in the communities and the nation they serve. Biyo’s award consists a Citation.

The said award, as well as the other individual and institutional awards to be handed by CMO Asia in the said event, is intensely researched on by a group of international judges who shortlisted prospects based on their extraordinary work and track record of achievements.  A Jury comprising of senior professionals and leaders from across the globe then reviewed the shortlist.

Biyo said the honor comes at a time when SEI gets “leaps of gains” in its promotion of the science and technology scholarships to students.

“The gains we have made in doing this work—of helping students in their studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); of inspiring the youth to become science professionals, and of helping build our STEM teaching capabilities—are what gets recognized by this Award,” said Biyo while crediting the whole SEI and the DOST management for the recognition.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña congratulated Biyo and SEI for such prominent recognition, saying the Award is “a testament to the huge impact of Science and Technology human resources development in economic growth.”

“We are proud that one of our leaders at the DOST is honored by an international body. This reflects our stance that science and technology is really the way to go for us Filipinos,” disclosed de la Peña. (30)
