3,400 hs grads qualify the 2012 DOST-SEI Scholarships
A total of 3,400 high school students have qualified for the DOST Science Education Institute science scholarships for AY 2012-2013, DOST Secretary Mario G. Montejo announced today.
Of this number, 3000 examinees who belong to economically disadvantaged families qualified for the RA 7687 Scholarship grants, while 400 passed under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.
Most S&T OFWs go to Middle East – SEI study
Throughout the years, the Middle East has been the consistent importer of science and technology overseas Filipino workers, a study of the Science Education Institute showed.
At the Launching of Recent Publications on Migration of S&T workers and Science and Mathematics Frameworks, SEI Director Dr. Filma G. Brawner revealed that in SEI’s research publication “International Migration of Science and Technology Manpower-OFWs” it was found that on the average 9,066 S&T OFWs are employed in Saudi Arabia.
IMO bronze medalist tops 2012 PHL Math Olympiad

One of 2011’s bronze medalists in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) topped this year’s Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO).
Henry Jefferson Morco of Chiang Kai Shek College won First Place, taking home P15,000 while his coach, Frederick Buiza, got P5,000. Morco won last year’s bronze in the IMO together with Carmela Antoinette Lao and Vance Eldric Go of Saint Jude Catholic School. The Philippines’ medal haul last year was the country’s largest ever since it joined the hardest mathematics competition in the world.
DOST honors 257 Intl Science and Math Competition Winners

The Department of Science and Technology on Friday gave recognition to 257 elementary and high school students who won in various international science and mathematics competitions.
The students received the Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Award, a medal of distinction given by the DOST, which signifies its high regard for excellence and competitiveness through the distinguished achievements of young Filipinos in international science and mathematics competitions.
Nominations for 3rd Gawad LIDER extended

The search for the big names in the field of science education goes on as the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) extends the deadline for nominations for the 3rd Award for Leadership and Innovation for Development Relevant to Science Education or Gawad LIDER to February 15.
DOST-SEI Director Dr. Filma G. Brawner said the extension was done to provide ample time for more nominations to come in.
