DOST undergraduate S&T scholarships application open until Sept. 6

The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is accepting applications for the 2020 S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Program until September 6, 2019. Date of nationwide examination is on October 20, 2019.
DOST-SEI Director, Dr. Josette Biyo, encourages all qualified Grade 12 students (School Year 2019-2020) to apply and pursue careers in science and technology.
“As long as you meet the requirements, seize and make the most of this opportunity to become a DOST scholar. We hope to reach not only the country’s best minds but also those with passion to serve the country,” she said.
DOST undergraduate scholars receive financial assistance of P40,000 per academic year to cover tuition and other school fees, living allowance of P7,000 per month, book allowance of P10,000 per academic year, and other scholarship privileges.

The DOST-SEI, in its commitment to serve its clients promptly and efficiently, would like to inform concerned DOST-SEI scholars enrolled in UP Diliman that the funds for the financial assistance, including the amount allocated for the stipends of new and ongoing scholars for AY 2018-2019, were released to the University on July 4 and October 7, 2018 for the First Semester; on March 7, 2019 for the Second Semester; and on August 8, 2019 to cover expenses of DOST-SEI scholars enrolled for the Midyear.
As we are very much aware of the day-to-day needs of our scholars, we ensure that enough funds are made available for timely disbursement by the University, particularly for the stipends of all enrolled scholars, despite any delay in the submission of the required reports and other documents.
Nonetheless, we will immediately discuss with the concerned parties in the University on how to avoid delays in the release of stipends and other financial assistance to scholars.
Rest assured that DOST-SEI will address this issue in the best way possible.
Philippine team hauls silver, bronze at prestigious Intl Math Olympiad

The Philippine contingent to the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) claimed an impressive win as all six members of the team won a medal in the oldest and most prestigious of the international scientific olympiads.
The national team held strong by bringing home one silver and five bronzes against more than 600 other contestants in the competition held in Bath, United Kingdom from July 11-22, 2019.
This is only the second time, after the 58th IMO in 2017, that all six representatives won a medal. The Philippines also ranked 31st out of 112 countries, up from last year’s 38th out of 107 countries.
Emerson Philippines strengthens learning inside Science Explorer bus

Emerson Philippines gives DOST-SEI’s Science Explorer a boost by providing laptops for use of students in the mobile learning facility. Students will have a more engaging classroom experience aboard the Science Explorer as Emerson Philippines donated laptops to the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), the agency behind the country’s first mobile science learning facility.
Since its inception in 2010, the Science Explorer bus has served more than 32,000 students from over 100 municipalities all over the country. Inside the mobile lab, top young scientists and engineers teach specialized science and technology modules to elementary and high school students, mostly from public schools in far-flung areas in the Philippines.
